MISSISSIPPI ADVOCATE •
Valerie Pinkston (She/Her)
Since I was diagnosed in 2008, I knew my purpose was to help others like me, but I never knew how to do that. I am a Black woman living in rural MS, and I am a member of Positive Women’s Network-USA. I am new to HIV decriminalization, but I am excited to be joining HNP this year to work on my advocacy skills and learn everything I can. I don’t let HIV define me. It took me years to get out of my shell, now I’m ready to show the world who I am.
“I applied to be an advocate because this is a great way to empower PLHIV to advocate their concerns, needs, and have their voices heard by policy makers.”
